Singapore’s Leading Car Brands: A Snapshot of Registrations

Singapore’s car market continues to be dominated by established Japanese marques, with Toyota firmly in the driver’s seat. According to cumulative registration data, Toyota tops the list with 275,452 vehicles on the road, well ahead of its nearest rival, Honda, which follows at 182,794 registrations. This substantial lead underscores Toyota’s enduring reputation for reliability, fuel efficiency, and a broad model lineup that appeals to a wide range of Singaporean drivers.

Behind the top two, German luxury brands make a strong showing. Mercedes-Benz occupies third place with 102,273 registrations, demonstrating the city-state’s appetite for premium vehicles and status symbols. Nissan and B.M.W. round out the top five with 88,871 and 86,720 registrations respectively, signaling that both mainstream and performance-oriented manufacturers maintain significant footholds in the market.

Mid-range and emerging brands such as Hyundai, Mazda, and Mitsubishi occupy the next tier. Hyundai’s 75,417 registrations reflect the brand’s growing value proposition, while Mazda’s 61,286 and Mitsubishi’s 51,840 highlight their continued appeal among buyers seeking a balance of style and affordability. Interestingly, South Korean and Japanese marques collectively account for the majority of registered vehicles, illustrating regional manufacturing strength and strong dealer networks.

Looking further down the list, niche brands like Volvo, Suzuki, and Citroën each contribute smaller but notable shares, underscoring the market’s diversity. As Singapore’s automotive landscape evolves—with increasing interest in electrification and hybrid technologies—it will be fascinating to observe how these rankings shift in the years ahead. For now, Toyota’s commanding lead cements its status as Singapore’s go-to brand for dependable motoring.

Among the niche and luxury marques in Singapore from 2005–2024, Porsche leads this cohort by a comfortable margin, with 9,917 total registrations. Close behind is BYD at 8,594, reflecting the growing interest in its value-oriented, electrified lineup. Tesla rounds out the top three within this selection, with 5,165 registrations—underscoring the brand’s early appeal in Singapore’s EV market.

Moving into the mid-tier of this group, Fiat (2,530) and Maserati (1,547) show modest but steady uptake among buyers seeking European flair at comparatively accessible price points. Alfa Romeo (1,191) and Ferrari (1,059) follow, indicating that even high-performance and exotic badges can carve out a small but consistent presence in Singapore’s tightly regulated automotive landscape.

At the lower end of the spectrum, ultra-luxury and specialist builders report very limited volumes: Rolls-Royce (738), Lamborghini (670), and Aston Martin (390) each hover in the hundreds, while hyper-exclusive names—McLaren (222), Lotus (152), Alpina (75), Mitsuoka (58), Morgan (16), and Pagani (2)—collectively account for fewer than 600 registrations.

These figures highlight just how rare truly bespoke and hand-crafted vehicles remain on Singapore’s roads.
