The East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia consist of the states of Kelantan , Terengganu and Pahang which are located east of Peninsular Malaysia. These states are less developed than those in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
The East Coast Economic Region (ECER) is an economic development region in Malaysia which was opened on October 2007 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The government initiative is the third economic program after the Iskandar Development Region (WPI) in Johor and the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) in the north of Peninsular Malaysia which involves four states namely Perak , Penang , Kedah and Perlis . ECER involves three states in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia namely Pahang , Terengganu and Kelantan as well as the Mersing district in Johor . The area covered is 66,736 square kilometers, 51 percent of the area Peninsular Malaysia . ECER involves 3.9 million people.
The development of the ECER is 12 years from 2007 until 2020. The leading company is Petronas’s oil and gas company .
